Land Rover Discovery Sport 2020

From overland expeditions to family adventures, Land Rover has been designing vehicles with composure and capability at their heart for more than 71 years. For the last three decades, the Discovery family has combined contemporary SUV design, unrivalled versatility and advanced technology for families with a spirit of adventure.
The new Land Rover Discovery Sport is the latest addition to the bloodline and pushes the boundaries of the premium compact SUV sector with an enhanced exterior design and transformed interior. New vehicle architecture ensures the fastest-selling Land Rover ever produced is now more efficient, technologically-advanced and versatile than ever, keeping its occupants safe and comfortable in all conditions.

With new features and the very latest technology, the new Discovery Sport delivers superior interior space and refinement, while its 5+2 interior features a new infotainment interface with the latest connectivity, plus a more flexible seating arrangement with up to 24 combinations for enhanced versatility.
Under the skin, Land Rover's new Premium Transverse Architecture (PTA) accommodates efficient new electrified engines, including a 48-volt mild hybrid from launch, to help reduce emissions and fuel consumption. The new body is stiffer than its predecessor, with rigidlymounted subframes that reduce noise and vibration intrusion into the cabin, improving comfort and providing maximum safety in the event of a collision.
Trademark Discovery design cues, including the clamshell bonnet, rising beltline and tapered roof remain, but the new model is a bold exterior evolution. The proportions have been optimised to project a more striking visual with new signature LED headlamps at the front and rear, alongside a new front grille and bumpers.
Inside, the arrival of the digital Touch Pro infotainment system and the introduction of more premium materials throughout transforms the cabin to create a high quality yet practical space. New seats across each of the three rows provide improved comfort and versatility, thanks to the second row 40:20:40 split fold and slide functionality, boosting the possible number of seat combinations to 24 and covering every eventuality - be it the school run or a family holiday.

A PRACTICAL PACKAGE
The new Discovery Sport is available in S, SE and HSE trim, in addition to the R-Dynamic variant, which features Satin Dark Grey alloy wheels, unique front and rear bumpers and Shadow Atlas script on the bonnet and tailgate. Inside, Ebony seats with contrast stitching, black gearshift paddles and unique treadplates provide a sportier character.
The Discovery Sport makes the most of its compact exterior dimensions with a versatile interior that has been enhanced to optimise interior space, provide improved small item stowage across all three rows and a 20 per cent increase in fuel tank capacity (up to 65-litres). With the option of Land Rover's Activity Key, a wearable waterproof wristband that allows customers to lock and unlock the vehicle without using the traditional keyfob, the compact SUV is more usable than ever and designed to take your family further.
MILD HYBRID
The New Land Rover Discovery Sport features Land Rover's always-on 48V mild hybrid system - an efficient, electrified powertrain, which does not require charging yet minimises fuel consumption and CO2 emissions in a variety of driving situations.
Designed with electrification in mind, the new Premium Transverse Architecture allows for the introduction of a new 48- volt mild hybrid electric vehicle (MHEV) powertrain on Discovery Sport. First launched on the new Range Rover Evoque, the system uses an engine-mounted belt-integrated starter generator to harvest energy normally lost during deceleration and stores it in an under-floor battery.
At speeds below 17km/h (11mph), the engine will shut off when the driver applies the brakes, before redeploying the stored energy to assist the engine under acceleration to reduce fuel consumption. The new engine and transmissions are refined, quiet and efficient to drive, ensuring that whether on the school run, a drive into the country or heading to the Alps, they offer notable efficiency savings.
EFFICIENCY GUARANTEED
Available across the range of four-cylinder Ingenium petrol and diesel engines, the mild hybrid delivers CO2 emissions from as low as 144g/km CO2 (NEDC equivalent) and fuel economy up to 40.9mpg (6.9l/100km) (based on WLTP test procedure). An even more efficient plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) model and three-cylinder petrol Ingenium engine will also join the range later in 2019.
New Discovery Sport is one of the first Land Rovers to use Real Driving Emissions stage 2 (RDE2) certified engines, ahead of their mandatory introduction in 2020. By tracking emissions using a realworld on-road test in addition to traditional laboratory measurements, customers can be certain the latest Ingenium diesel engines available on the compact SUV are cleaner and more efficient than ever.
The most efficient Discovery Sport model will be the Front-Wheel Drive 150PS diesel with manual transmission, offering emissions from as low as 140g/km of CO2 and fuel economy from 47.8mpg (5.9l/100km). To maximise efficiency, models with All-Wheel Drive (AWD) benefit from Driveline Disconnect - a Power Transfer Unit at the front axle that disconnects drive to the rear wheels under steady state cruising, reducing frictional losses and re-engaging AWD in less than 500 milliseconds.
SMART TECHNOLOGY
Designed to meet the digital demands of a modern family, the latest Discovery Sport is available with a 'smart rear view mirror' that transforms into a video screen at the flick of a switch to display what is behind the vehicle in crisp high definition. Offering a wider (50-degree) field of vision and superior visibility in low light conditions from a camera mounted above the rear window, the mirror ensures rear visibility is not compromised by second row passengers or bulky items in the boot.
ClearSight Ground View technology has been introduced to help drivers navigate high city centre kerbs or tackle rough terrain by projecting camera imagery that offers a virtual 180-degree view beneath the vehicle onto the touchscreen. Effectively making the bonnet invisible, this is the realisation of Land Rover's Transparent Bonnet technology, first previewed in 2014.

CONNECTIVITY
The New Land Rover Discovery Sport meets the digital demands of the entire family. So no matter where in the world you are, exploring the great outdoors or simply doing the weekly shop, your vehicle keeps you and your family connected, informed and entertained.
The digital transformation does not stop there. Wireless charging for compatible mobile devices is introduced for the first time within the lower centre console, while a 4G WiFi hotspot, alongside USB and 12-volt connectivity points on every row, ensure passengers remain charged and connected. Second and third row occupants also benefit from individual heating and ventilation controls to make the space more comfortable.
For regular drivers of the new Discovery Sport, Smart Settings uses artificial intelligence algorithms to learn driver preferences, adjusting massage and seat positions, music and climate settings and steering column positioning to suit each driver.

The moment you sit inside the Discovery Sport you feel a sense of calm, as the panoramic roof bathes the cabin in light and accentuates all the uncluttered surfaces. Premium materials have been responsibly sourced throughout, ensuring occupants always enjoy the drive - whether on the open road or in the city - while a reduction in road and engine noise ensure families can talk comfortably and stay connected with each other on a long journey.
With versatility at its core, the interior has been designed to meet the challenges of an active lifestyle, combining a 5+2 seat layout with a spacious, modern interior that features two digital display screens and a new centre console. This is punctuated by soft rotary controls and buttons, set into a hidden-until-lit, gloss black interface and grouped logically so that everyone can enjoy the refined, premium environment.
A MODERN TOUCH
Aclean and elegant three-spoke, multi-function steering wheel with capacitive switches, a modern and easy-toread instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch Touch Pro infotainment system, all contribute to creating a modern and well considered interior design.
Every seat in this vehicle has been given equal focus, with a new design that gives improved comfort and offers massage functionality in the front row for the first time on Discovery Sport. Customers can also choose a sustainable, non-leather Luxtec material made of a recycled polyester microfibre. Luxuriously soft, lightweight, durable and tear-resistant, it comes with the option of a softer, more tactile Alcantara steering wheel.
Owners can personalise their vehicle with the option of Land Rover's Black Pack, available on both core and R-Dynamic models. It features additional Narvik detailing on the grille and fender vents, which extends to the bonnet and tailgate lettering.
For the first time, Land Rover has introduced an optimised 21-inch wheel to Discovery Sport. This complements the suite of 12 wheel designs across five sizes - ranging from 17 to 21 inches - that allow customers to personalise their vehicles even further.
SEAT SPACE
Modern family life requires versatility and practicality and the new Discovery Sport has been designed and engineered to be even easier and more family-friendly.
Based on Land Rover's new mixed-metal Premium Transverse Architecture, a 2,741mm wheelbase and compact suspension design combine to offer an enhanced 5+2 seat layout, greater ride comfort and increased stowage to create the ultimate compact SUV for modern families.

Cleverly designed without compromise. There's more usable space, ensuring the New Land Rover Discovery Sport will accommodate your family and luggage in comfort.
With the ability to slide the second row forwards and back, legroom can be as much as 968mm for second row and 655mm for third row passengers. The stepped roof - a hallmark of Discovery family design - and flat floor also ensure headroom of 984mm for second row and 875mm for third row passengers.
Overall small item storage has been increased by 25 per cent (48-litres), thanks in part to a larger central cubby box and re-designed door bins. The new central storage bin offers a generous 7.3-litre capacity and features a removable tray with two cup holders and a small net for items such as headphones or chargers. The tray includes a smartphone holder that, alongside a similar space in the base of the storage area, allows devices to be charged by one of the two USB charging sockets inside.
STORAGE SOLUTIONS
New cup holders and re-positioned storage spaces for third-row passengers mean there is now a place for everything, while USB and 12-volt charge points (in total, six and three, respectively) are located conveniently throughout the cabin. Front row occupants can even benefit from Jaguar Land Rover's first use of wireless charging for compatible smartphones and tablets.
Optional Click & Go tablet holders, which hold and charge smart devices for passengers travelling in the second row, are now available and are perfect for keeping children entertained on long journeys.
At the rear, boot space is 897 litres, increasing to 1,794 litres when the second row seats are folded flat, while the inclusion of a cargo net as standard stops loose items from sliding around on the move.

These are available with a series of accessory packs that offer additional functionality across vehicle practicality, connectivity, driver assistance and parking. There is also Land Rover's all new Pet Pack accessories, designed to improve the Discovery Sport experience for customer and dog, alike.
TERRAIN RESPONSE
New Discovery Sport is built on Land Rover's Premium Transverse Architecture that, alongside the latest allterrain technology, ensures this is an SUV designed to get you and your family anywhere and everywhere safely.
The latest addition to the Discovery vehicle family comes with a number of innovative new features that reinforce Discovery Sport as a comfortable and composed, go anywhere compact SUV.
In addition to All-Wheel Drive and automatic transmission, Terrain Response 2 is now available as standard on the new Discovery Sport. Not only does it allow drivers to choose from four modes (Comfort, Sand, Grass-Gravel-Snow, Mud & Ruts) to optimise performance and capability, the new Auto mode enables Discovery Sport to select the most appropriate mode for the conditions and automatically adjust its torque delivery to suit the terrain. When paired with Adaptive Dynamics, a 'Dynamic' mode also delivers a more enhanced drive experience.
MILD HYBRID
The latest Land Rover Discovery Sport comes with a number of additional all-terrain technologies pioneered by Land Rover, with Hill Descent Control and All-Terrain Progress Control available as standard, alongside ClearSight Ground View. The realisation of Land Rover's transparent bonnet concept, it provides a virtual 180-degree view beneath the front of the vehicle when tackling uneven terrain or assisting with tight city centre parking spaces.
This compact SUV is designed with electrification at its heart. The new Premium Transverse Architecture (PTA) means Discovery Sport is available from launch with an 'always on' 48-volt mild-hybrid electric vehicle (MHEV) powertrain. Harvesting energy normally lost under deceleration, the system stores it in an underfloor battery, ready to be redeployed when the vehicle pulls away and to assist the engine under acceleration. When braking and at speeds below 17km/h (11mph), the engine will shut off to minimise emissions.
EFFICIENCY BOOST
Ideal for the commute, school run or trip abroad, MHEV technology combines to reduce fuel consumption as low as 40.9mpg (6.9l/100km) and with CO2 emissions from 144g/km (WLTP). This mild hybrid powertrain will be joined by a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle model before the end of 2019.
PTA is a new mixed-material architecture that is not only electric ready, it also provides greater versatility and refinement. The new body is stiffer than its predecessor, which together with rigidly-mounted subframes reduces noise and vibration intrusion into the cabin, ensuring comfortable family adventures, as well as maximum safety in the event of a collision.
CLEAN ENGINES
Customers can choose from a suite of Ingenium four-cylinder powertrains, including three petrol and four diesel variants. The efficient 150PS diesel manual (FWD) delivers CO2 emissions of 140g/km (NEDC equivalent) and fuel consumption from 47.8mpg (5.9l/100km) while, at the other end of the performance scale, the 250PS AWD petrol automatic model offers 400Nm of torque and acceleration from 0-60mph in 7.1 seconds.
New Discovery Sport is one of the first Land Rovers to use Real Driving Emissions stage 2 (RDE2) certified engines, ahead of their mandatory introduction in 2020. By tracking emissions using a real-world onroad test, in addition to traditional laboratory measurements, customers can be certain the latest Ingenium diesel engines available on the compact SUV are cleaner and more efficient than ever.
An updated ZF nine-speed transmission offers a further two per cent fuel economy improvement, which is enhanced by changes to the front bumper, engine undertray and active vanes on the air intakes that streamline the aerodynamics further.
Active Driveline (engine output dependent) is an electronic torque vectoring system that constantly balances the distribution of engine torque across both front and rear axles when cornering to improve grip and steering confidence. Driveline Disconnect - available on every All-Wheel Drive model - disengages drive to the rear wheels at the front axle when cruising to reduce frictional losses and improve fuel economy, before seamlessly re-engaging in a fraction of a second when conditions dictate to ensure no loss in traction.
Discovery Sport has been refined to cope with challenging off-road terrain thanks to a ground clearance of 212mm and outstanding approach, departure and breakover angles of 25, 30 and 20 degrees respectively. With four-wheel drive models, customers can climb gradients of up to 45 degrees.
NEXT-GENERATION MACPHERSON STRUT FRONT SUSPENSION
Featuring Hydrobush technology, new cast aluminium knuckles and stronger front control arms, the front system delivers reduced high-speed wheel vibration, ensuring a truly premium ride.
ADAPTIVE DYNAMICS
Adaptive Dynamics uses continuously variable damper technology to monitor road conditions every 10 milliseconds. This enables a composed ride with maximum control, regardless of any change of terrain or surface.
INTEGRAL-LINK REAR SUSPENSION
Integral Link delivers exceptional handling and ride refinement. This system is also half the height of a conventional system, providing less intrusion into the interior and therefore a larger bootspace.
TERRAIN RESPONSE 2
Discovery Sport is based on the new Premium Transverse Architecture and uses pioneering Terrain Response 2 technology to take you further into the countryside. There are four driving modes to choose from that optimise performance and off-road capability, plus an Auto mode that selects the most appropriate mode to suit the conditions and surfaces, automatically adjusting torque delivery to suit the terrain.
SAFETY FIRST
The maximum towing capacity for new Discovery Sport remains at 2,500kg but has been enhanced with optional Advanced Tow Assist - the pioneering technology that incorporates semi-autonomous driving technology to allow the driver to concentrate on steering the trailer, while letting the car guide itself. As the driver uses the touchscreen for visual guidance and one of the lower interface rotary dials to 'steer' the trailer, it removes the need to counter steer the vehicle.
New Discovery Sport rides on coil springs or Adaptive Dynamics, which ensures an even more composed ride, regardless of any change in terrain or surface, by combining intelligent sensors and continuously variable suspension dampers that monitor road conditions every 10 milliseconds.
There is a reversing camera as standard on all models, alongside a suite of advanced driver assistance systems. This includes Adaptive Cruise Control with Steering Assist, which centres the vehicle in the lane based on road markings, as well as maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle in front.
In the event of a collision, a pedestrian airbag under the bonnet's top edge will inflate to protect the head of a pedestrian, while three ISOFIX points will keep occupants safe. There is even an Emergency Call service that will automatically put you in touch with your local emergency services to ensure you are safe.
CLEARSIGHT GROUND VIEW
The New Discovery Sport uses pioneering technology that allows you to see, hear and feel more than ever before from behind the driver's seat. ClearSight Ground View technology effectively makes the bonnet invisible, ideal when you're exploring the great outdoors.
Smart, connected technologies and the latest visibilityenhancing features ensure the new Land Rover Discovery Sport meets the digital demands of the entire family, delivering greater convenience, confidence and safety.
ClearSight Ground View - derived from Land Rover's 'invisible bonnet' concept - uses cameras in the front grille and on the door mirrors to project a feed onto the central touchscreen showing what is ahead of and underneath the front of the vehicle. With a virtual 180-degree view, it helps maintain visibility when negotiating extreme terrains, potholes or high city-centre kerbs.
CLEARSIGHT REAR VIEW MIRROR
The New Land Rover Discovery features ClearSight Rear View Mirror, a high-definition video screen that revolutionises rear-view mirror visibility from the driver's seat, capable of displaying more of the environment behind the driver.
Jaguar Land Rover's smart rearview mirror is available on Discovery Sport for the first time, transforming into an HD video screen at the touch of a button to display a rear-facing camera feed onto the mirror that ensures the driver's view remains unrestricted by passengers or large items in the back. It also provides a wider 50-degree field of vision using a camera positioned above the rear window and delivers clearer visibility in low light conditions. Designed with a protective lip and hydrophobic (water-resistant) coating to prevent mud and water soiling the lens, in the unlikely occurrence that the camera is ever obscured, drivers can change back to a traditional rear-view mirror at the flick of a switch.
SCREEN TIME
Central to the digital interior experience is the Touch Pro infotainment system, now standard on Discovery Sport and introducing a new 10.25-inch highdefinition touchscreen, which allows familiar controls such as swipe and pinch zoom for ease of operation. A hidden-until-lit lower interface is also available, allowing control of the heating, ventilation and climate system, Terrain Response 2 and Advanced Tow Assist.
This combines with the newly-introduced 12.3-inch digital driver display and full-colour head-up display to create a discreet interior filled with digital interfaces that create a premium, yet versatile, environment.
The driver can intuitively control a wide range of technologies from their fingertips. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto offer full smartphone integration, while Click & Go rear-seat tablet holders bring additional charging capability for the kids, alongside a 4G WiFi hotspot for up to eight devices, six USB slots and three 12-volt points found throughout the cabin.
INTELLIGENT TECH
Occupants in the front row benefit from the introduction of wireless charging technology (located below the infotainment screen), while second row passengers can now also control the temperature and fan speeds with the introduction of controls at the rear of the centre cubby.
Smart Settings technology (optional feature) is introduced to the Discovery family and uses artificial intelligence algorithms to learn the habits of drivers over time. The 'selflearning' technology recognises the driver from their key fob or phone and will set up their seat and steering column position on approach, allowing for up to eight profiles to be registered.
After a few journeys, Discovery Sport remembers the driver's preferred temperature settings, media preferences and commonly dialed numbers depending on the time or day of the week - it will even remember seat massage settings.
EASE OF USE
Terrain Response 2, Land Rover's pioneering all-terrain technology, allows drivers to choose from four modes (Comfort, Sand, Grass-Gravel-Snow, Mud & Ruts) to optimise performance and capability, while an Auto mode enables the system to select the most appropriate mode for the conditions.
Advanced Tow Assist is available to make towing easier and safer than ever, allowing the driver to focus on steering the trailer and not the difficult counter-steering of the vehicle. The maximum towing capacity of new Discovery Sport remains 2,500kg.
Safety comes as standard on the latest Land Rover Discovery Sport, with features such as a front and rear parking aid, rear camera, Autonomous Emergency Braking and Lane Keep Assist, Driver Condition Monitor and Cruise Control and Speed Limiter.
