Hyundai i30 - 2019

Hyundai Motor is extending its high-performance N range with the All-New Hyundai i30 Fastback N, offering the second high-performance model for the European market and the third N model worldwide.
The Hyundai i30 Fastback N is the first five-door hot coupe in the C segment and unique in its class. By extending its emotional high-performance product portfolio, the company again demonstrates its ability to think beyond the conventional. The i30 Fastback N combines the sophisticated and elegant design of the i30 Fastback with the exhilarating fun-to-drive factor of the i30 N five-door. The new model follows the major success of the i30 N five-door, which came to market in January 2018. Since then, the i30 N has exceeded initial sales expectations: Almost 9,000 i30 N five-door units were ordered by the end of 2018 in Europe (1,200 in the UK).

Cornering & Race Track Capability
In the development of i30 Fastback N, durability and racetrack performance were key elements. Its brakes have been developed to last with an extra cooling function through the air intakes on the front bumper. Launch Control, with maximum full-throttle revs able to be set between 3600 and 4900, helps to launch the car as easily as possible by controlling the engine torque. The Fastback N body's high rigidity is increased by the optional rear stiffness bar behind the rear seats, as well as by additional weld points in the body structure.
The N logo symbolises a chicane, the ultimate part of the track where the Hyundai i30 Fastback N achieves maximum traction, precision and feeling. The powerful 2.0-litre turbocharged engine delivers up to 275 PS and 378 Nm of torque (with overboost function). The car's strong cornering ability is achieved by the electronic limited slipdifferential. It increases the maximum cornering speed through corners from turn-in to early corner acceleration. The Electronic Controlled Suspension (ECS) further adjusts the performance according to requirements during cornering, accelerating and braking. In combination with the rigid body the cornering speed is enhanced when driving on the track. To guarantee maximum grip of the i30 Fastback N, the car is fitted as standard with the 19-inch Pirelli high-performance N tyres.
The All-New i30 Fastback N is an out of the ordinary daily sport coupe suitable for commuting in elegance on weekdays or for race track performance on the weekend. Central to the N experience are the five drive modes, including Eco, Normal, Sport, N and N Custom settings, which can be selected by using two dedicated buttons on the steering wheel. The different modes change the character of the car, adjusting the high-performance parameters of the engine, the dampers, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), the electronic limited slip differential, sound, steering and Rev Matching. Additionally, the driver can select the Rev Matching button on the steering wheel to increase the revs on the engine when shifting from a higher to a lower gear.
Designed to thrill
As part of Hyundai's i30 range, the All-New i30 Fastback N is the next fun-to-drive car for enthusiasts available across Europe since the end of 2018.
Besides its unique high-performance design features, it was developed according to the "form follows function" principle. Designers worked closely with aerodynamics specialists to define the right ratio between the car's downforce, drag and aerodynamics to create the best possible driving experience. The hot five-door coupe is longer and lean with its striking silhouette and sporty stance. In consequence, the All-New Hyundai i30 Fastback N slices through the air at speed. It is 120 mm longer than i30 N five-door and the roof peaks lower by 21 mm compared to the i30 five-door N. Its streamlined shape is demonstrated by a drag coefficient of 0.297 Cd, compared with the i30 five-door N's 0.320 Cd.
On the outside
After first introducing the N performance-specific design features with the i30 N five-door, Hyundai has now launched the first five-door hot coupe in the C-segment, unique in its class. The i30 Fastback N combines unique high-performance design elements paired with the sophisticated style of the i30 Fastback with its charismatic front and teardrop-shaped cabin. The distinguishing N elements that underline the N look are the unique front bumper with larger air intakes and a red character line. In combination with the prominent Cascading Grille, the familiy's identity that features the N emblem, the car's origin is clearly visible. The i30 Fastback N comes with black bezel headlamps.
At the rear, the new spoiler and the aggressive bumper further underline its hot and dynamic appearance. In addition, the glossy black rear boot lid lip makes the rear stand out, making a downforce-creating impression. The elegant form thereby follows the function of further enhancing aerodynamics and creating the best possible driving experience. On the rear's lower part, an elongated character line reflecting in red underlines the bumper. To complete the car's sporty impression, a unique triangular rear fog lamp is integrated into the section between the double muffler exhaust. The car's side view picks up the thrilling character with 19-inch alloy wheels designed for N, red brake calipers with the 'N' logo, a black side sill of the lowered body and glossy black outside mirror housings.
The All-New Hyundai i30 Fastback N is available in six exterior colours, allowing customers to further express themselves. The mature Shadow Grey is the exclusive launch colour of Hyundai's new five-door coupe. Customers can also choose from Polar White, Phantom Black, Engine Red, Performance Blue and Micron Grey - all colours that are also available for the i30 five-door N. The door handles come in the same colour as the car's body.
On the inside
High-quality interior materials and dark metal inserts underline the elegant character of the i30 Fastback N and its affiliation with the motorsport sector. The i30 Fastback N features uniquely designed high-performance sport seats that carry the N logo, red stitching and come with a seat cushion extension. The covering of the seats is available in a sophisticated black one-tone interior colour in a combination of suede and leather.
The red stitching in the All New i30 Fastback N's interior brings distinction from any other N. The interior is focused on connecting the driver with the car at all touch points with red accents in the stitch and air vent ring colour. Its centrepiece is the exclusive 'N' sports steering wheel, which ensures the driver is in optimal control of all driving performance features directly by hand. The characteristic N button with a chequered flag icon on the right side (painted in dark metal) allows direct access to the N mode. Right above, drivers can activate the Rev matching button for better engine control. On the left, three standard drive modes can be selected: Normal, Sport and Eco.
All driving performance settings become visible on the centre screen, the N cluster. On top of the centre console, the high performance track data is additionally on display - specifically made for passionate drivers. The N logo is positioned on the base of the steering wheel as well as on the ball-type gear shift knob, both featuring the red stitching to be in line with the coherent colour design of the All-New Hyundai i30 Fastback N. Metal pedals emphasise the sporty driving feel.
R-MDPS responsiveness
The i30 Fastback N offers a high level of precision in its steering, delivering great value to the driver: its rack-mounted motor driven power steering system (R-MDPS) provides stability to the vehicle at high speeds and makes the car instantly responsive at lower speeds. The electric steering assist system located in the steering gear offers very high output and is designed even for track day driving with cup tyres.
N Power Sense Axle
N Power Sense Axle is the name given to the front axle of the i30 Fastback N. Compared to the i30 Fastback base model, lateral stiffness is strengthened through structure change and grip is augmented through several detail adjustments in the suspension and chassis setup. Thanks to greater amounts of grip, the car transfers the engine power to the road effectively and gives the driver lots of feedback to generate maximum driving fun.
Rear stiffness bar
The Body In white of the i30 five-door base model already provides an excellent basis for the car's overall stiffness with its rigid body structure. Thanks to a strong, light body with 51 per cent in-house developed ultra-high strength steel, the dynamic performance is enhanced and passive passenger safety is increased. To further improve the car's overall stiffness, the i30 Fastback N will come as standard with a rear stiffening bar installed behind the rear seats. It increases body rigidity by 6 per cent and reduces the natural trend to twist in curves.
Launch Control
The Launch Control system controls the vehicle to reduce wheel spin or slip on a hard acceleration from a standing start, helping to launch the car like a professional driver. Launch Control can be effectively used in N drive mode: with the clutch disengaged, the first gear can be engaged immediately by releasing the clutch pedal within five seconds after full throttle acceleration. After using launch control, it will be available again after three minutes of cooling time. The engine revs can also be set to hold (on full throttle) anywhere from 3600 to 4900rpm.
Rev Matching
Rev Matching automatically increases the revs on the engine when shifting for smoother or sportier downshifts. It synchronises engine speed to the input shaft speed for the next gear during shifting. Consequently, depending on the drive mode, it allows smoother or sportier downshifts. The Rev matching button can be switched on easily by hand as it is located on the right side of the steering wheel.
Electronic Controlled Suspension (ECS)
Electronic Controlled Suspension (ECS) controls the vehicle suspension automatically to maximise driving comfort and performance by taking into account driving conditions such as speed, road surface, cornering, stopping requirements and acceleration. By controlling the damping force, ECS enhances ride and handling and stability.
Electronic Limited Slip Differential
The differential which is standard on the Fastback N enhances grip and delivers maximum power to the road. It is equipped with a mechanism that controls the differential functions of the wheels. It helps to improve the handling when driving technical roads and tracks at speed, to improve the launching performance and to prevent slipping on rainy or snowy roads due to dissimilar traction of the left and right wheels. The differential increases the fun-to-drive factor through corners from turn-in to early corner-exit acceleration.
Sound management
Thanks to the Electronic Sound Generator (ESG) and Variable Exhaust Valve System, the Hyundai i30 Fastback N offers a fun and rewarding sound experience. To provide the inside of the i30 Fastback N with an audio high-performance experience, a sporty engine sound is produced by the Electronic Sound Generator in the body panel. In the cabin, at the base of the windscreen, an engine sound generator provides some extra acoustic drama to match the mood of the driver. Then with the Variable Exhaust Valve System, depending on the drive mode, the driver can select different exhaust sounds and thus manage to actively control the exhaust valve The sound differs with the size of the valve opening. The system cooperates with the backfire sound generator for a maximised sports car sound experience.
N Drive Mode Control System
Depending on the driver's mood and the road conditions, the N Drive Mode Control System gives the choice between five distinct drive modes: Eco, Normal, Sport, N and N Custom, which can be activated by using the two dedicated buttons on the steering wheel. The different modes change the character of the car, adjusting the parameters of the engine, the dampers, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), N Carving System, engine sound, R-MDPS responsiveness and Rev matching. In the N Custom mode, drivers can select from Normal, Sport and Sport+ settings for each high-performance component to match driving preferences and road conditions.
Engine power lineup
The i30 Fastback N is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, in combination with front-wheel drive. The engine will generate the maximum power of 275 PS/ 202 kW, a maximum torque of 353 Nm and a maximum speed of 250 km/h. The overboost function, which is activated when reaching maximum torque, further increases torque to 378 Nm. It enhances the turbocharger speed for up to 18 seconds by increasing the amount of air and fuel for further output.
In addition, the i30 Fastback N features the Electronic Limited Slip Differential for exceptional traction and the Variable Exhaust Valve System for a sporty sound. Its maximum grip is guaranteed by the 19-inch Pirelli P-Zero high-performance Hyundai N tyres, a unique variant of the Ultra High Performance Summer tyre with the dimensions 235/35 R19 made by Italian premium tyre manufacturer Pirelli.
High Performance Driving Data
Those who love taking the car through corners at speed are able to get the driving information of PS, torque, turbo boost as well as a lap and acceleration timer on the Hyundai i30 Fastback N's centre screen. The high performance driving data saves and displays driving data, a very useful aid on the race track.
Connected to the world
The i30 Fastback N offers state-of-the-art connectivity, including 3D navigation, media features, Android Auto, Apple Carplay and wireless charging.
The i30 Fastback N driving modes can be displayed on the 8.0-inch touch screen with navigation. Both systems include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, enabling users to connect their devices to deliver and control music, telephone or navigation functions on-screen. Seamless connectivity allows drivers and passengers to stay connected while remaining focused on the road. Hyundai Motor also offers a wireless inductive charging pad for mobile phones (Qi standard) and seven-year free subscription to LIVE Services. LIVE Services offer updated information in real time: weather, traffic, speed cameras and online searches for points of interest. On the navigation screen, also featured is the High Performance Driving Data. The specific N mode screen menu offers customisable settings for the engine, suspension, steering, differential, Rev matching, exhaust sound and stability control.
Class-leading safety package
By offering the latest active safety features for the new i30 Fastback N, Hyundai Motor democratises technology as with the rest of the i30 range.
Forward Collision-avoidance Assist (FCA) fitted in the i30 Fastback N operates in three stages using camera sensors. First, it warns the driver visually and audibly. In a second step, it controls the brakes according to the collision danger stage and in a third stage applies maximum braking force to avoid a collision or minimise damage if a collision is unavoidable.
Lane Keep Assist (LKA) senses the car's position and alerts the driver about unsafe movements at speeds over 60 km/h. By audibly and visually warning the driver before inducing corrective steering, it guides the driver back to a safe position.
With the Driver Attention Alert (DAA), the Hyundai i30 Fastback N features a driver protection system: this monitors driving patterns in order to detect reckless or fatigued driving and prevent potential accidents.
High Beam Assist (HBA) detects both oncoming vehicles and vehicles in the same lane ahead at night and changes to low-beam lights as appropriate, thereby reducing blinding effects on other drivers. HBA automatically re-activates the high beams and therefore maximises the driver's range of vision as soon as no vehicles are detected.
Produced in Europe
The i30 Fastback N is produced at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech in Nošovice (HMMC). The facility opened in 2008 and started production of the first generation i30 the same year. It has an annual production capacity of 350,000 cars and fulfils the highest quality standards to meet European customers' expectations. The HMMC facility also features a 3.3 km open test track on the factory grounds, ensuring that every vehicle is tested for dynamic properties, noise and functions, along with a full underbody check.
