Porsche has significantly enhanced the legendary 911 sports car with the introduction of the new 911 Carrera GTS. As the first street-legal 911 to feature a super-lightweight performance hybrid, the 911 Carrera GTS offers a groundbreaking powertrain system with 3.6 liters of displacement, delivering remarkable driving performance. This innovative hybrid system accelerates the 911 Carrera GTS Coupé from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.0 seconds, reaching a top speed of 312 km/h. Additionally, the 911 Carrera is available immediately with a refreshed 3.0-liter twin-turbo boxer engine, offering more power than its predecessor. The new 911 lineup also boasts a redesigned exterior, improved aerodynamics, a refreshed interior, and upgraded standard equipment with expanded connectivity options.
Porsche's relaunch of the iconic 911 follows the modernization of four other models in its lineup, including the Panamera, Taycan, and Macan. According to CEO Oliver Blume, "Our product portfolio is younger than ever and highly attractive," offering customers more customization options and exclusive experiences.
Inspired by Motorsport: Innovative Hybrid Performance
The new 911 Carrera GTS models benefit from cutting-edge motorsport technology. Porsche engineers designed the hybrid system based on extensive testing and development. "We developed and tested various ideas to create a hybrid system that perfectly suits the 911, enhancing its overall performance," said Frank Moser, Vice President of Model Lines 911 and 718.
The T-Hybrid system features a newly developed electric exhaust gas turbocharger, which instantly builds boost pressure with an integrated electric motor, generating up to 11 kW (15 PS) of electric power from the exhaust gas flow. This system replaces the traditional twin-turbo setup with a single turbocharger, resulting in more dynamic and responsive power delivery. Additionally, a permanent magnet synchronous motor integrated into the new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (PDK) adds up to 150 Nm of torque and a 40 kW power boost.
The hybrid drive is powered by a 3.6-liter boxer engine with advanced technology like VarioCam camshaft control and a compact, high-voltage battery system. The boxer engine alone delivers 357 kW (485 PS) and 570 Nm of torque, while the overall system output reaches 398 kW (541 PS) and 610 Nm, representing a 61 PS increase over its predecessor. Despite the added hybrid components, the 911 Carrera GTS only gains 50 kilograms, maintaining its agile performance while reducing CO2 emissions.
Enhanced Suspension and Aerodynamics
The 911 Carrera GTS features a comprehensively revised suspension, including standard rear-axle steering for increased stability and reduced turning circle. The Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) anti-roll system is integrated into the high-voltage system, enhancing flexibility and precision. The sports suspension with variable damping (PASM) and a lowered ride height of 10 mm contributes to the GTS's signature handling.
The new 911 Carrera offers a variety of wheel options, including Exclusive Design wheels with carbon blades that improve efficiency. The GTS models come standard with 21-inch rear wheels and 20-inch front wheels, enhancing driving dynamics and traction.
Streamlined Exterior Design
Porsche has refined the 911's exterior with targeted updates for improved aerodynamics and performance. New model-specific bumpers and integrated matrix LED headlights enhance the car's design while improving cooling and airflow. The 911 Carrera GTS models feature active cooling air flaps and adaptive front diffusers, optimizing airflow based on power requirements.
Optional HD matrix LED headlights provide advanced lighting functions, including dynamic cornering lights and lane brightening. The rear of the 911 has been redesigned with a new light strip and exhaust system, while an optional aero kit further enhances performance.
Fully Digital Cockpit and Connectivity
The 911's interior combines classic Porsche design with modern technology, featuring a fully digital 12.6-inch curved display and a new Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system with improved customization and connectivity. The cockpit is designed as a two-seater, with a 2+2 configuration available as an option. New features include a cooled smartphone compartment with inductive charging and the integration of Apple CarPlay® and video streaming apps like Spotify® and Apple Music®.
