Intelligent charging with integrated reservation
Mercedes-Benz is the first automotive manufacturer to offer integrated charging-station reservations directly within the vehicle's navigation system. When route guidance is active, Navigation with Electric Intelligence automatically reserves a compatible charging bay at participating Mercedes-Benz charging stations approximately 15 minutes before arrival, helping to minimise waiting times and providing greater confidence during long-distance travel.
Initially available at selected charging locations in Germany and the United States, the reservation service will expand to additional markets as the Mercedes-Benz Charging Network continues to grow.
Navigation with Electric Intelligence continuously calculates the fastest and most efficient route by considering a wide range of real-time variables, including topography, traffic conditions, ambient temperature, driving style, battery state of charge, charging station availability and charging power.
The system also incorporates increasingly sophisticated weather forecasting—including wind conditions, rainfall and snow—to further improve energy predictions. Based on these calculations, it automatically selects the most time-efficient charging strategy, recognising that several shorter high-power charging stops may reduce overall journey time compared with a single longer stop.
To maximise charging performance, the navigation system automatically preconditions the high-voltage battery before arrival at a fast-charging station, ensuring it reaches its optimum operating temperature. Drivers can also activate battery preconditioning manually whenever required.
Green Charging
In Europe, Canada and the United States, MB.CHARGE Public includes Green Charging as a standard feature. Where charging stations are not directly supplied by renewable electricity, Mercedes-Benz offsets the energy used by purchasing certified renewable energy certificates equivalent to the amount of electricity consumed.
These certificates originate from renewable energy facilities less than six years old and, wherever possible, are sourced within the same country where the charging session takes place, supporting continued investment in renewable energy generation.
Ready for bidirectional charging
The all-new GLC has been engineered to support the future integration of bidirectional charging. When connected to compatible DC charging infrastructure and where local regulations permit, the vehicle can both store renewable energy and return electricity when required.
This enables Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) functionality, allowing the GLC to supply power to a home, as well as Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) capability, supporting broader energy networks by feeding electricity back into the grid. As energy ecosystems continue to evolve, bidirectional charging positions the all-new GLC to play an active role in a more intelligent and sustainable energy future.
